NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is a naturally occurring coenzyme which is important in cell nuclear DNA repair and telomere maintenance. NAD+ plays a critical role in cellular electron transport, DNA repair, and the chemical process of generating energy. Though NAD+ occurs naturally in the body, it decreases with age. NAD+ is one of the most important co-factors for improving mitochondrial function. Mitochondria are intracellular organelles (a.k.a. “energy powerhouses”) where macronutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates, and fats are converted to energy-rich ATP molecules for the cell. NAD+ helps the liver break down fats that are essential to provide energy for the body. It also helps create ATP, which is a major source of energy for cells.
Research has shown that when NAD+ is given by IV it can improve mental clarity, alertness, concentration, and memory. In addition, NAD+ can slow the aging process, increase brain function, improve athletic strength and endurance, reverse the symptoms of chronic fatigue, overcome mood disorders, and ease anxiety and depression. NAD+ is also used clinically to help manage a wide spectrum of diseases ranging from diabetes to cancer, and is used in functional addiction treatment for alcohol and substance withdrawal.
